I was sooo bright and shiny and new then, because *my* first contact with the SCA was in the summer of 1980, at OKon 4 (the one at the Mayo Hotel -- another story in itself). There was a panel at 9 am on the SCA, and my brother and I made sure we were there for it. I know Master William Blackfox was there (part of the crew for the con -- ran the film room). And Master Frederick -- in a green velvet houpelande. And they said that, yes, there was a group at Stillwater/OSU just formed the year before. So I was primed and ready for it when I went off to college in August. Amazingly enough, my room was in the dorm that had the most SCA players living in it (Cordell!) so after finding the cover organization (Medieval Studies Group -- rules were different back then), I quickly started attending meetings and a few events.

Really, I blame the green velvet houpelande. There was just something about it.....
