[Ansteorra] Feast at Warlord

I don't think I've seen this answered:
No, no feast at warlord. This is held at the Canton Trade Days/First Monday sight. There is a large hall with airconditioning that will be open most of the day. There is a snack bar in there.  the Viking Longship company, famous for their fabulous omelets with insults will be there, not sure if just saturday or saturday and sunday. They cook for donations. Be sure to trade insults with the cooks, they cook to order and promise not to spit in your food. (LOL).

there are sidewalks everywhere with grassy, tree covered avenues where RV's usually pull in that we set up tents on. So, each camping spot has electricity which means you can run a fan in your tent and you don't need a propane lantern, just a plug in light. You can also charge cell phones and cameras with ease.

showers: there will be at least one bathhouse open, maybe two. these are not your scout camp type bath houses. Ample flushing toilets (one of the few truly not primitive sights, i don't think there are any portable toilets on site!).  Bathhouse has 4 or more showers, with hot water that you might not want by the end of the long hot days,  and are concrete floored and well kept.

Ice is the big problem. Being just on the outskirts of the city of Canton, there is usually somebody making the WalMart run that would be willing to grab a bag of ice for cash. Bring some small bills.  Favors are also a good thing (as in, going to town? grab me some ice and I'll save a cold beer for you this evening).

Food - best bet is to pack your own. Above ground BBQ pits or propane stoves are both good. Water and gatorade are usually abundant on and around the fighting arenas. Bring your own cold stuff (water spigots are also at the campsites).

At these campsites you set up camp and leave your car right there - no moving the vehicles to an outlying lot. The event officially ends on sunday late afternoon after court. However, some people stay through sunday night, party a bit or just collapse, and then pack up and move out monday morning (I believe we have to be off site by 11am).

Warlord is a really fun event. This year is the 25th anniversary of the rapier event so that will get a bit of center stage this year. there will be merchants in the hall as well as outside near the fighting events. Lots of opportunities to buy stuff. Artisan row will be inside with the opportunity to see lots of neat stuff and some working craftsmen in all sorts of arts and sciences.

This is going to be a great event. Especially if you have not attended many. It will offer a lot of everything. Sample lots of stuff. There is going to be a Hafla saturday night - Middle eastern dancing and drumming - it's informal so it's a great place to socialize and even learn a few dance moves. Site to be determined - outside- listen for the drums.   There will also be a bardic competition - song and rhyme and poems from the medieval world or about the medieval world or heroes or noted figures of legend from our local kingdom. Great to listen to. Details will be available at Warlord.

This is one of the least rustic sites that SCA events are typically held at. However, it is so big that everyone can camp close to everything and lots of venues can be held for all kinds of things to participate in and watch.

If that doesn't answer your questions, or if you now have more, please email me or ask the list again.

Greetings,
We are contemplating attending Warlord  for the first time. Is there a feast planned?  Does the Tavern serve meals? Are there any food merchants or will we have to go offsite to purchase food?
Showers and washing facilities .... Hot water? How rustic is the site?
Thanks,
Helena
