[Ansteorra] The poor sad remnant of the SCA

I'm going to come out of lurker mode for a moment,

I don't see where things like MMORPGs are competing with the SCA for time;
the kind of people who don't do the SCA because of MMOs probably weren't
going to play in the SCA for that long anyway. I think that it really comes
down to money. I don't have the money to drive all over Texas and Oklahoma
for the SCA events; and there aren't that many events that appeal to me as
a non-fighter (and going and "hanging out" at a fighting event isn't always
fun enough to merit the expense).

I've said -- several times on this list -- that I would like to see more
local (baronial) things on a weekly/monthly basis that are just fun things
to do (parties/revels/potlucks). I also wish that there were more events
that were closer to me (anything beyond 3hr drive is not close).

That being said, the few (~2/yr) events I do go to I have a blast at. I
wish that I could be more involved -- only interacting with the SCA a few
times a year does not help with motivation...

I'd like to reiterate though that the main thing keeping me away from going
to more events is finances.
