Is There still on 'Order of the Madonna'? I have never heard of it prior to this and I have never seen it on the OP or in the list of the awards.

I know many a mother who has raised their children in our society.

Alianorra
(the curious one)

Duke Houghton was probably William of Houghton. In the early days,
the Board took a much more active role in the day-to-day running of
the SCA. They were called The Imperial Electors and referred to as
"Your Serenity."

Remember that this was 1977. If you wanted to communicate with
someone you either made a long-distance phone call, wrote them a
letter or waited until you were at an event to talk face-to-face.
There was none of this newfangled email, texting or Facebook stuff.
And this area was the *Region* of Ansteorra, an up-and-coming corner
of the Kingdom of Atenveldt (which, in those days, stretched from
Arizona north to the Canadian border and east to the Atlantic
Ocean--"Atenveldt" included the lands that are now the kingdoms of
Artemisia, the Outlands, Ansteorra, Gleann Abhann, Meridies and Trimaris.)

I remember going to that event.

Missed that one.

Note the *Principality* of Meridies. They became a kingdom around the
time Ansteorra became a principality.

>   John the Plain of [illegible], Stargate

As Aethelyan said, John the Plain of Shearn. He lived on Shearn
Street in Houston, thus the name.

The Madonna was an award for folks who were raising kids in the SCA.
It was one of several awards set up when we became a principality,
five or six months after this packet was written.
