Going to see our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter in Rapid City
a few years ago, the paper map we bought in Rapid City, Google Maps
and the GPS *all* said to take a certain road. That road turned into
a gravel road which ended in someone's front yard about a
quarter-mile from where we wanted to be. The only way to proceed fron
there was on foot or *maybe* in a 4-wheel drive vehicle; there was no
road--all the maps lied.
To add to the fun, the hill we had just come down had enough ice
mixed in with the gravel that we couldn't get the car back up it. We
ended up having to call a tow truck to pull us out. I've also heard
stories of people's GPS units routing them through lakes or on gravel
roads over mountain passes in the middle of winter. So, yeah, don't
totally trust the GPS.
