I have a mundane question for you legal types. I need to
give a little background first. I have a childhood friend who was divorced earlier
this year in Texas. The judge that granted him the divorce was hospitalized the
day after he granted it. The divorce decree was not signed until a month later.
His ex-wife obtained a marriage license and remarried before the 30 day waiting
period was over. I know this can be done if a judge ok’s it. According to the
issuing clerk there was no judge’s waver attached. His ex was also retired military
(they were married the whole 20+ years) and used this fraudulent marriage
license to obtain military benefits for her new family. My question is what
could the consequences of these actions be, both locally and federally?
