And sometimes....I think on a Friday/Saturday night: "I'm sleeping at home,
in my own bed tonight, in a warm/cool house."
The truth is that I would probably dive headfirst back into the Hot
Summers/Freezing winters....if I hadn't gotten burned-out at
an...impressionable....age...by dealing with the sordid underside of the SCA
too deeply, for too long...

First, HL Willoc mac Muiredaig will be running fires every day in
Artisan's Row. This requires a ton of "small wood" - which cannot be
bought. She especially needs it Monday morning thru Thursday morning.
So she is again offering the "Kindling for Gold" opportunity to the
children & youth. From HL Willoc:
'I give them a Gold dollar for each armload. (Armload: Hold out your
arms, bent at the elbow. Fill them up to your nose with crackling-dry
sticks & twigs. And yes, I accept that a 5-year-old carries less than a
teen - but the effort is the same. I pay for effort, not size of load.)
If I think someone is skimping me, I pay in silver (still a dollar
<grin>), not gold.
I understand that some of the merchants also offer specials for
"Kindling Gold".'
This is yet another opportunity for our youth. Yay! Just remember to
gather only the wood that is already on the ground. We are not allowed
to take limbs off trees.

In the future I would really like to see a "Mongolian Grill" style food
vendor at GW. The huge advantage of this style of food is that you pick
exactly what goes on your plate so if you are vegitarian/vegan, if you have
issues with onions or msg, or if you can't stand broccoli in any form, you
don't put those things on your plate. I absolutely would visit this vendor
at least twice during the week. Currently I avoid all the food vendors
because I do not know EXACTLY what they put in their food, and my dietary
restrictions are too complex to easily explain to a vendor.
This won't be a solution for the extremely sensitive such as those who stop
breathing if they get a drop of peanut oil, the person who gets hives if
their food is cooked on the same grill with seafood, or the true Celiac for
whom even a particle of soy or wheat would make them ill. These people's
issues are very real but I don't see an easy solution for them.
This might require thinking outside the box, like going to a commercial
vendor rather than an SCA related food merchant. I know some Mongolian
Grill type operations have mobile catering setups so perhaps we could pitch
it to them as an idea to come vend at GW. I suspect they would do brisk
business.
