There were several requests for the piece I performed at the bardic
competition yesterday.

The Sable Shield

A fighter and knight sat by the field

And talked of tournaments and wars.

The fighter saw knight's golden chain.

"I wish my skills were like yours."

The knight looked back and bowed his head;

The Sable Shield he did spy.

"That simple black shield around your neck

Makes you a greater warrior than I."

The Sable Shield holds no rank

No privilege it extends.

It speaks of the sacrifice one has made;

In service to family and friends.

So hail to those who wear the Shield.

And hail to their families as well.

May you know peace all of your days;

And comfort wherever you dwell.

-Goldweard of St. Golias
