In explanation, list management software looks at several aspects of an
incoming email to decide what to do with it. In this case, anything sent to

ansteorra at lists.ansteorra.org

(or any address aliased to it) will, if the sender is a member of the
list, broadcast that message to the entire list membership. To change
something involving your own membership, you send that message to

ansteorra-request at lists.ansteorra.org

that address signals to the list management software that you are asking
to modify the parameters of your membership, not send a message to the
group.

This is why it's advisable to use the graphic Web interface to manage
memberships unless you are an old-school veteran of mailing list commands.
