Noble Citizens of the Stellar Kingdom of Ansteorra: I, Friar Galen of
Ockham, an Astronomus of no small repute, have been diligently studying my
astrolabe and celestial tables and do mightily tremble to bring you grave
news. On Sunday next, being the V day before the Kalends of October, I
predict the moon shall appear as blood in the second hour of the night,
before the bells sound for the Office of Compline. Indeed this is a grave
sign! When a blood moon last appeared in the skies over our fair Kingdom,
the Thrones of their Majesties soon became vacant! Therefore I do indeed
fear for our Most Beloved Majesties. The Full Harvest Moon should be a joy
and delight to all Men, allowing those who till the soil to labor late into
the night to provide provender for the cold, hungry days to come. But upon
that chill eve when Luna's countenance becomes pale and reddens, those in
High Estate must needs take heed! These portents I have seen many times in
my two score and fifteen years, and have never failed to see this Sign
bring Woe. Lo, I pray Their Majesties do take extreme care in the days
following this Sign lest they be struck down in Their Prime - God forbid!
And I ask that their Highnesses do also gird themselves should they be
called upon to sit the Stellar Thrones. He who has ears let him hear! VIVAT
REX! VIVAT REGINA! VIVAT ANSTEORRA!
[A total eclipse of the moon will occur the evening of Sunday, September
27. Throughout Ansteorra the moon will be in the first phase of the eclipse
when it rises at sunset. The first visible bite out of the edge of the moon
will be apparent just after 8 pm CDT with the moon being fully engulfed in
the shadow of the Earth at 9:11 pm. It will begin to emerge from shadow at
10:23 pm with the eclipse complete at 11:27 pm.
Eclipses were taken as ill omens throughout history. In 2014, there was a
total eclipse during the Hunter’s Moon of October 7, 2014, just prior to
Coronation on October 11. This year there will be two weeks between the
eclipse and Coronation, but still close enough to verify my prediction.
I do truly feel the end of Their Majesties’ reign draws near, not so much
because of the sign in the sky, but more because the Ansteorran calendar
lists ‘Coronation’ on October 10.]
