My apologies, Maestro Vincenti, but I have to disagree with you there. Sir
Alexis's original reply was curt and implied disdain over the decree of
Their Majesties. Those who believe that what is termed "political
correctness" can also mean "respect for others" or "being considerate"
stopped using the term decades ago, and its present-day connotations are
almost always negative and meant to insult. To imply that our group is
moving away from historical accuracy can also be seen as scornful. There is
nothing civil about his first reply and nothing about it that presents an
opening for a reasoned discussion into the matter. As for what he has been
doing during the pandemic, well, he implies that the kingdom and the SCA as
a whole has been thoughtlessly infantilizing their members, rather than
seriously considering the welfare and health of tens of thousands of people
in a multitude of communities, as opposed, in his case, to a few score whom
I assume all live in the same general area. No matter which way they had
come down, I recognize that at both a Society and Kingdom level it was a
very difficult decision they had to make and that it required careful
thought and consideration, and I have respect for those who have to make
such tough decisions.
Though of course it is his right, I worry that a Lion of Ansteorra would so
publicly ridicule the Crown of Ansteorra.
I thank Master Robin for educating us in the historical usage of "hunter"
vs "huntsman" - something good has come of this.
