A quick pause as I light the cannon fuse and run.............. I must politely disagree with your statement... >>> Gunnora Hallakarva 06/12/98 08:08pm >>> The statement is simply factual - White Scarves are being evaluated for a grant level award. No one asks whether or not they fulfil the necessary traits one is supposed to have if one is a peer (the "bearing of a peer" in which one can manage certain elementary SCA skills such as dance a dance, play a medieval game, have basic knowledge of heraldry, chivalric combat, the arts, and service, as well as having a certain wisdom and maturity that is normally associated with the peerage). >>>end Now I have only been a White Scarf for 1.5 years and sat in only 5-7 circles but the evaluations DO consider these elements. They fall into the category of being "well-rounded". This is also why you see more "all-around" events such as Squires & Cadets, Midsummer Fair etc. There may not be a concerted focus on dance, heraldry, and Gaming. But I have seen first hand that the Arts, Service, Bearing, Wisdom, Maturity, and Knowledge are all Primary Conversation Points along with Combat. Some White Scarves are more adamant than others on these issues but that just adds diversity and flavour. The White Scarf Circle does not meet and say "well we are not a Peerage Circle so lets judge each candidates by Grant level criteria." We TRY to strive for the highest ideas of the SCA and look for those from our candidates. I do not mean to take the tone that I speak for the entire White Scarf Circle. I know my beliefs are not alone. If I have offended anyone please roast me publicly and serve with my "a jus".
