It is acceptable to look for girls at SCA event. My husband found me at his first event. But we have a shortage of unattached young ladies. My husband has a theory about that. When we were young courtesy in the everyday world was lacking and it seem that the SCA was a place to meet gentlemen. Now courtesy is growing in the everyday world and not growing in the SCA. Many SCA gentlemen are not promoting it and our Knights are not stressing it. The SCA doesn't feel that special to ladies. There is less courtliness, Less flirting, Less dancing, Less activities that promote that romantic warm feeling Ladies and Maidens used to find in the SCA. Young women are looking for their "knight in shining armor" in other places. I wish you all the luck in finding your "'love of your life" but you may need to get your local group to start targeting young women as new members and you may need to go to demos and flash your smile at young ladies to get them into the group. Remember every new person has the potential to bring in two others. While the young lady you recruit may not be your "love" the person she brings in may be. In my youth, Sir Randal von Nortlichwald and myself used to go to bars and attract new members. I would smile and invite gentlemen and he would invite ladies. We got lots of newcomers that way. We would do the same at Sci fi and gaming conventions. It is important to attact both men and women of equal numbers. We need bright young people with lots of energy to make us feel like a fun group. It is a funny story because Sir Randal recruited my husband at a gaming club at UT at Arlington and matched us up. It took him months to get us together and he apparently kept anyone from asking me out the whole time. I was beginning to wonder if I was a leper. The story of Jonathan courtship is something out of an Romance. I still bess my brother for putting us together. Well enough of an old women's memories. willow de wisp
