Several years ago one of my kids' junior high Geometry teachers had a similar idea, but the kids expanded on it.  It bloomed into a "Catapult Challenge" that the entire school was allowed to observe.  The teacher asked the local SCA group to help with technicalities, but we wound up being hands on teachers ourselves, and targets of the water ballons in the end.  It was a great demo opportunity, and made memories for the kids they will never forget.

My daughter is a 7th grade science teacher in Sping, Tx her class will be designing and bulding simple a catapult on Nov, 2 & 3 with a launching on the 6th.
