You are correct. Many of us are doing enough. I am not doing enough. When I was younger I would get together with other like minded people and plan stuff to do at event. Things that showed the historical aspects of what we are studying or this that made magic moments. I remember planning the fight that set up the first clan game. the two fighter got together an choreographed their fight. It felt very real. You should of seen the faces of the nobles when an Ardoon and Caldal fighter started rolling on the floor. I have done simple things like bringing flowers to give out to fighter for good fights, black feathers for good kills and Lily's for good deaths. I have bought Chansons and have gotten someone to read them at sewing events. I would research Saint days and festivals and try to do things that made these things alive for people. I would try to reach into the world of my persona and bring things to share with people. I believe this was what "learning by doing" was all about. I am afraid that I now do not do many of these things. One reason is that others aren't. Another thing is because everyone seem to be talking about the SCA this or the SCA that. The SCA is a mundane organization. I don't live in the SCA . I live in Ansteorra. I can't seem to maintain the magic long enough to do something, Another reason is that some people have criticized my for my efforts. They say," I am not real." or they imply that I have lost my contact on the real world. My persona is based in History if I can't refer back to that, if I most stay in the modern world then you get the mundane me and she doesn't do that kind of stuff. Most of what a high noble does would not fit into the modern world. I of all people should realize this is the wrong attitude. When we used to do lots of persona. Everyone didn't to it all the time. We would have places and times that we did things. The Ladies Pavilion by the list field, a persona tavern, the court, a quest and special event -Lion's, Plague Parties, Namron Allthing, etc, these were where we did stuff. We did them publicly and people who do only a little persona would watch and enjoy. Many of our things were planned months ahead and put on the non-published schedule. Time was made for them, but we tried to make them appear impromptu. My point is we made them happen by getting together. One of my favorite persona game was when Master Ragnar ask Clan Caldal to help raid Bjornsberg. We thought this was to be a big joke on Baron Sir Jan. What we didn't know that Jan was playing a joke on us. He had asked the King and the Belted circle to a Boars Hunt. We "attacked" Friday night. There was a building for us to burn and a keg of beer. I told everyone that this was "persona" and we needed to set a watch. They didn't. 6 o'clock in the morning a messenger came down to inform us that we needed to get dressed to fight because the King and his many Knights were on the ridge. We fought all day with no coffee. How real is that. The King and his men killed us all the way to the ship and took us captive. I then had to talk Caldal's way out of it . Paid a huge were-guild and left Master Ragnar to work his own way out. This resulted in many months of persona play. This activity took a lot of planning on Sir Jon and Master Ragnar's part. I am sure many people in Bjornsberg had a part. hat I am saying is we can just say we should do more. We need people to lead and get people together and do things. We need Baron and Baroness and Kings and Queens that will set time aside to do things. We need to free up time for stuff. Old time organizers in Ansteorra were very good at leading us into these games without our noticing it. The activities were very well planned. We don't need to look at others and say "you should" we should start doing and get others involve. I will be doing that in my local area. I promised Ansteorra that Steppes and Elfsea will be open to these kind of activities. This should give people a place to get together and do things with other regions. Maybe we could start up the culture camps again. Even if they are unofficial they could still be done. If anything the Clan Caldal will have a presence at Elfsea Defender and we invite all our family, friends and allies to camp with or near us. We are honoring our relatives, Wolf Star's anniversary. This a perfect time for the Households of Ansteorra to come together and interact in persona. If anyone wants help on how to start persona activities please contact me. I have lots of info on it was done in the past. willow de wisp, Caldal of Caldal
