Bob Dewart (gilli at seacove.net) said something that sounded like:

Gilli, the largest problem, from talking to many archers and non-archers,
is the attitude of the archers in this Kingdom.

When someone approaches the archery range, they are ignored and spurned.
It is generally only those that are truly dedicated in shooting archery
that stay around. Most others will only make one or two attempts at
watching or getting involved before they give up and go on to other
endeavors. After someone has proved themself by actually shooting archery
more than once, they are accepted by the rest of the community with
open arms.

The problem isn't to make it more fun, or to guilt people into doing it,
but in being more open to "outsiders" that approach the field. Encourage
them to try, encourage them to ask questions, and make them feel welcome.
This will get the Kingdom more archers and more people shooting which
will help this Kingdom have the best archers.

Yes, there are exceptions to this, but as a stereo-type this is what is
happening. I had several people, including a countess, talk to me after
Steppes Warlord because of it.

While Ansteorra may have the best of many areas, not all Ansteorrans are
willing to "jump through the hoops" that others have put together to
rank them. I know I am not willing to do it except for the fact I enjoy
shooting and that is a good test of my abilities. I don't care if the
scores are recorded or not.

Btw, Ansteorra should have scores in all categories after Steppes
Warlord. That was a good punch in the arm for the IKAC. (Although I
don't know if I shot in "open" crossbow or "period" crossbow.)

Ciao,
