As we seem to be engage in a hot debate over whether or not Ansteorrans
should be shooting in the IKAC and the IKCAC and if the archers who do shoot
these are more apt to win archery competitions at events, I would like to
add my two cents.
If you are a fighter, heavy or light, you go to fighter practice to
practice, hone and improve your skills. You do this by actually fighting.
You don't do it by sitting on the sidelines and making excuses for not
practicing.
If you are an artisan, you practice your craft. Speaking from personal
experience, when my mother first taught me to embroider, I have vivid
memories of early efforts I would not have wanted anyone to see but, I
kept at it. When my mother first taught me to crochet I had some
spectacular disasters but, I kept crocheting. When I first started to
weave I wasted a lot of yarn but, that didn't stop me from weaving. Now I
am never going to be a professional at any of these things but I am
certainly not ashamed of any of the work I do. Because I practiced and
improved my skills.
I also have a vivid memory of trying to teach my neighbor how to crochet. I
taught her the chain stitch, which is the foundation that all other crochet
stitches stand upon. this easy and she just kept on going. When I
suggested it was time to learn other stitches so she could make something
she told me that was to hard she was just going to chain stitch and wind it
up in a big ball.
So, to me the questions is, are you going to be like the fighters and the
artisans and practice (and if you really want to shoot archery you will
find a way to practice) or are you going to be like my neighbor and make a
big ball of chain stitches?
