ARCH - Another question

It's not a legitimacy thing. Achery is most legitimate. It has a Society officer. I beleive that every Kingdom has a Kingdom Archery Marschal. And every Kingdom in the Society has at least one Archery award. No---legititmacy is not the problem.

We are caught in a catch 22 situation, that frankly I don't _ever_ see changing. A given number of *our* own archery population doesn't see a need for an archery award as long as recognition could be given with other awards, such as Thistles. Cranes, Falcon, Stars, Irises and Centuirons. However, as history has shown, in all but a very few cases, the non-archery population is, relectant, unwilling or whatever, to use those awards in place to regocnize these folks.

That whole little what if situation just could come to past. If so, we'd come off looking like abunch of disgruntled whinners who can't make up their collective mind. Which is TURE!!!!!!!!! For those new to the list, over the past year, the list has identified several problem areas that we could improve our performance in. However, for the bulk part *they* don't want to fix it, just complain about.

An archery award isn't about getting one for yourself. It's about YOU giving it to someone you feel deserves it. Yes, yes, yes, all awards come from the Crown. But in point of fact, They are the dilevery mechanisim, and happy to be so. They can't be every where or see ever thing. They depend on us to tell them who deserves what cookie.

Most folks don't do what they do to get an award. They got the award because they did what they do.

My dear Lord Charinthalis Del Sans said so perfectly:

"Ok the whole topic isnt for a specialized award or for
begrudegeing anyone else. The whole idea is for them
to be recognized for their efforts which, frankly, are
more expensive than a fighters expenses, and for the
contributions they add, instead of only being
recognized as needed at gulf wars and then promptly
forgotten. They put alot of time into makeing their
arrows honeing their skills and tracking down
  material."

I heartily agree, sir. I wish we could be recognised for our efforts more. I
know that those I shoot with do not shoot with awards in mind. They are great
archers who have superior skill and amazing accuracy on the archery field. I
count myself very lucky and very honored to be called an archer and to shoot
with them. Once we are recognised as a legitimate section of the SCA and not
as a body to fill the field at war, then we shall be seen for who we are:
  ARCHERS!

  Hopping off her soapbox,
  Lady Eleanor Cleavely
