Hi Rose!

I think I met you at AoB.

I strongly recommend talking to archers you know to see if they have any bows they aren't using that they would be willing to sell. I bought 3 used second hand bows from SCA folk over the last 13 years for a total of $110. Ebay is another option, but remember you won't be able to shoot the bow before you buy it (unless the seller is nearby) and you may not be able to return it if it doesn't suit you. Pawn shops are another option, as well as garage sales. With these options you can probably at least string the bow to check the limbs and draw weight (carry your own stringer). I tell all my new people not to go over 30-35 lbs on the draw weight for a first bow.

Equipment: Glove or tab (whichever you prefer), arm guard, stringer, a dozen arrows (you may end up breaking or losing a few to the range gods, better to have spares), quiver (ground, back or hip, again your preference). Glove, tab and arm guard you can usually order at a sporting goods store that does archery (the one here only carries camo colored in stock). Check sizes to make sure you get the right one.

You are welcome to practice with Shadowlands! We have practice Saturdays (at least until coronation) at Austin's Colony Park in Bryan. Email me for directions and times. It is a bit of a drive for you, but you would be welcome here.

Were you the lady with the long brown hair in the gray dress taking pictures at AoB?
