I usually just lurk here and gain all the knowledge I can concerning archery..

However, I'm sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with you m'lord.

There are many of us in this society who simply can not afford the
$35/year/person. If my lord and I had to shell out $70 a year for membership
then we would have to drop out and that would be a shame. Why? Until, I became
pregnant with Paige, Phelippe and I were very much core members of Elfsea. Now
that she has been born and I have my strength back, we will be getting more into
the swing of things again. Anyway, every time someone says at an event or at a
meeting or whatever, "I need help with <insert job here>." One of us is there in
an instant.

To make fees mandatory would be a very bad thing....it could potentially drive
away our core members....especially in these trying economic times.

Ok, I always say if you have a criticism, make a suggestion, just don't gripe
about it. So here goes...

1) I think that to have a membership card to hold any warranted office and
Chirurgeonate is a good thing. This protects our officers from liability.

2) Make the TI an option...if you don't want the membership to TI, then the BoD
could take that money and give it to the individual Kingdoms for their
newsletters. This I would not mind doing once I can afford to get my membership
again. I had a membership for 2 years and I only read 1 article because none of
the other articles interested me in the least. I would much rather see my money
go to the Black Star (a publication I read from cover to cover) than a
publication I glance at and then basically throw it away. For me, it was a total
waste of money that could have gone elsewhere.

3) Gerita said, "get the BOD out of California, the most litigious state in the
Union". I totally agree. Bring them here to Texas! Mundanely (before Paige came
along), I was a legal assistant and here in Texas there is a law that prevents
frivolous lawsuits (how does treble damages sound? This means that the defendant
(potentially the SCA) could turn around and reclaim triple damages from a
frivolous lawsuit...Can you say OUCH??!!) I also agree that the insurance rates
would be allot lower here than in California. Gerita is right about California
being most litigious state in the Union. Have you ever wondered why all those
court shows are based in California (like People's Court, Divorce Court, and
Judge Judy)? Because it's easy to sue, win and collect any "damages" there.

Stepping off the soap-box for now and going back to lurking mode. ;-)

Lady Maria de Vasquez
Barony of Elfsea

*** St. Theresa's Prayer ****
May today there be peace within
May you trust your highest power that you are exactly where you are meant to
be....
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has
been given to you....
May you be content knowing you are a child of God....
Let this presence settle into our bones, and allow your soul the freedom to
sing, and dance,
It is there for each and every one of you....
