Getting armor together can be done pretty cheaply if you have a helm already.  I'm pretty sure I know a place where they have elbows and knees for less then $15 a pair.  The rest can be done with plastic and leather.  I know there is alot of plastic floating around that can be used for body armor to make things less expensive,  almar used ot have a buunch of the stuff.
