What about Pheon (plur. pheons)?
It's a heraldic arrowhead. Could be a bit symbolic in that the student isn't quite "the whole arrow" yet, but has started on that path.

Journeyman as used in the real world means that you know what you are doing and are no longer a student, not the meaning that we are after IMHO.

The other one that caught my ear was Journeyman. I think it's used in
Antir as a ranking.
