We are using the Royal Rounds rules as guidelines. Check those. Range marks
are allowed on bows in open category only. peep sites are not allowed. As
far as the thumb board, I believe we said that we thought it would be
allowed, but would have to see it to be certain. It will have to be
inspected. As far as documentation. Despite some things existing in period
with documentation, neither the Kingdom nor the Society recognizes all of
these items, as yet, so it doesn't really matter if you have documentation
or not if you are planning on competing in the Bowman's, Children's, or
Steppes Archer tournament. If you are planning on competing in the Period
Equipment only shoot, then bring your documentation with you. A
verbal..."they did it in period." is not sufficient. Again...read the Royal
Round rules and Society rules. If it ain't in there, it ain't ok or is
subject to the opinion of the marshals working the event. That is as clear
as it is going to get. Yes, there is a certain amount of subjectivity, but
that is always in all events. One more time..., we are using the Royal Round
rules for Ansteorra for the guidelines. If you are unclear with themafter re
reading them, then direct questions to the Kingdom Archery Marshal and cc me
any responses so that we are all working on the same wavelength. You've
played this game Ulrich, you know what the basic rules are.
As far as Master Pug's tips, that has already been addressed.

So i would assume range marks on bows and a form of kisser button on
crossbow stocks are not allowed either as they have gone unnoticed in the
past?
Is that also to say that period sights that are documentable such as peep
sights (which were said to be not allowed), thumb boards etc are allowed?
there was a ruling in period shoot that the period sights were allowed like
the thumb board.
Need a clear ruling as i see they are not allowed and then it is said to
stay period. In my arena of play (crossbows) i can document sights where a
bow can not - but bows DO show up with range marks on limbs and wrapped
neatly into strings, decoration etc. If thats not allowed what provisions
are being made for that? I run screws in my stock in a form of a kisser
button to give me the same hold on the crossbow every shot. Screws can be
removed - problem solved - but someone who have wrapped thier riser or limb
will have to take the bow apart - hardly fair or cool to ask in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong - i to would hate to see someone asked to step down for
breaking the rules - especially if they can document the period use and
follow the rules of open class shooting as it is defined. However there
needs to be a VERY clear understanding of whats allowed and whats not in
this tourny and so far i am not seeing that. I think most of us (or atleast
me) have been perpared thier bow in accordance to the rules i have seen thus
far and now they are unclear again.
Pug bring your gear i have a ton of tips, i can bring a set of 125gr 5/16"
or a set of 125gr 11/32" if you need. I will also have some of my tools to
work on crossbows there and we can take the edge off the bodkins if you
wish.

Yes this would include non-mounted range finders as well for ALL contests.

I would assume this would include having and using such devices as
rangefinders even if not mounted on a bow? Such will be the case for the
Bowmans and Period Archery tourneys.

We have allowed 'mod bods' in the past and will allow them this year, as
well, subject to inspection, of course.
A reminder to all archers. No modern range finders, sights, etc are
permitted on bows. That includes peep sights, kisser buttons, etc. Please
check the Anstorran Archery webpage for allowable devices. This includes all
divisions including children's. I would truly hate to have someone
disqualified for having an illegal device on a bow.
Thank you for your cooperation.
