A great shoot with many fine shooters.

And for those that were not there at the mini court on Sunday night held courtesy of Don Robin and HL Serena- It was also related to Don Robin and Don Miguel by the first Baron of the Steppes (now a wandering pilgrim passing through the encampment) that the original Silver Arrow award is more than 30 years old and is one its oldest awards for honor, chivalry and virtue.

Vivat Lady Lyneya for reviving such an award!!! And Vivat Ld Thomas in being the first archer so recognized in a long time.

Jaque the Spink

It is my pleasure and privilege to report the winners of the archery
tournaments held this weekend past in Canton.

Dunchad Mor put an arrow through an apple at 40 yards to win the William
Tell shoot.

The Bowman's Tournament had a long interruption due to the arrival of a
Texas summer storm. There were 31 entrants who signed up initially and 31
who completed the shoot several hours later. Martino of Elfsea was the
winner. This was Martino's first event and I am told that he has only been
shooting for a few months. He went on to place in the top three in the
Steppes Archer event, as well. Congratulations, Martino, on a stellar
performance.

The Children's Shoot had a smaller turn out than last year, but the
enthusiasm of the young archers was infectious and fun to watch. All of the
participants received a period arrow crafted by HL Altair MacNamara to serve
as a remembrance of the day and encouragement to continue practicing. Thank
you HL Altair for your generous gift for our young people. Austin of the
Steppes was the winner of the shoot. This was his first event, as well. He
has been shooting for a few months with us and has a very impressive work
ethic and skill level. Congratulations, Austin!

The new Steppes Archer is Lughaidh MacSheoinin of Elfsea. Lughaidh showed
himself to be a versatile and skilled archer in less than ideal conditions.
While there wasn't as much rain as there had been during the Bowman's
Tournament, it was wet and there were some sprinkles. All sixteen of the
competitors did well under the conditions.

The premiere recipient of the Steppes Silver Arrow was Arcarius Thomas
Quilliam of Wiesenfeuer who not only shot in three of the four events, he
also served as our Chiurgeon, inspected, marshalled, instructed, and helped
with the setting up and taking down when needed....all with a cheerful
demeanor. He showed the chivalric values of grace, honor, loyalty, etc and
was chosen by his peers as an example of those values in action. Thanks,
Thomas and congratulations!

The Period Equipment competition had to be postponed and we will hold it at
a later date.

Thank yous also go HL Jaque the Spink, my deputy, Lord Oudeceus Kynith, HL
Ekaterina Kharlampieva, Thomas Quilliam, Lord Kerrick of Elfsea, Lord Arthur
Blackmoon, Lord Alvin de Clairmont, HL Wil "Ironwyrm" Blackdragon, Lord
Ulrich of Carolingia, Lady Sherenia MacGregor, Lord Tegwared MacAuley, Lady
Vivian McKinnon, Waterbearers Lady Osanna de Burgh, Lady Catalina and her
husband HL John Irwynne, and Marguarite McBrindin (I know I misspelled it,
sorry) for all their help. A special personal thanks to Baldric of the
Steppes for running back to camp as the storm approached on Saturday and
pulling electrical cords and zipping up my tent for me, to Laurence Paulson
for sitting out the storm with Katya and myself, and to Sir Karl for making
me laugh and helping me to keep my sense of humor through the weekend. If I
have left anyone out, I am sorry, but my brain is still quite fried. Thank
you one and all for a truly memorable event.

Lady Lyneya de Grey
Baronal Archery Marshal of the Steppes
