[Ansteorra-archery] Awards and the Crown...

Greetings Master Pug and the list,

    I could be wrong (and if I am surely Lady Lyneya will tell me by
repeated kicks to the shin) but I think the gist of Lady Lyneyas'  message
is probably that if an award, especially a Grant level or higher award, is
going to be given out for something specific (i.e. Arc d Or, White Scarf,
Centurion) then it would have been best served to have it done at and event
that was possibly better suited for that particular award.  Giving out a
White Scarf at the Academy of the Bow for instance is not going to allow a
majority of the rapier community to be able to partake in the celebration of
the award.  My understanding is that at Queens Champion the number of active
archers could probably be counted on one hand.  When these awards are given
out you are absolutely correct that it is supposed to be a token of esteem
and a surprise.  They also should serve to show to that particular community
what kind of person that this award is supposed to exemplify.  Not that the
rapier community does not appreciate the archery side of the world, because
there is certainly enough people that do both, but mayhap it would have been
better served where more archers could have had a chance to see what we
should aspire to be should we so desire to travel that particular path.

    I understand that the Crown can't just wait to give out specific awards
at specific events as that would create a serious backlog. I really don't
have an answer on how to solve this conundrum.  I too wish I could have been
there but my travel schedule is tied up with the A.O.B. and since I'm not
particularly active in rapier at this time I chose not to travel to Queens
Champion, so my loss at missing a good friends elevation to the Arc d' Or.
