If you want to make a one layer guard the best is 7 to 8oz.....roughly 1/8"
to 3/16" thick. You can also combine layers of thinner leather to do the
same thing. To be able to tool a design on it you will need veg tan leather.

For a lace up adult size guard you will need a piece that is 8" x 10". The
size of leather you will need for a quiver will depend on what style you
want....side, back quiver and such...... A side quiver is usually around 13"
x 24"....... A back quiver it is around 18" x 26" plus a 2" strap long
enough to go diagonally across your chest.

You can get the leather at Tandy's but they have become really crazy with
their prices. I found a great supplier on line which charges about half the
price for the same leather. It is called Siegel's of California and their
site is here.... https://www.siegelofca.com/Default.asp

I was really leery of buying anything i couldn't touch first but i took the
chance and havent been unhappy with anything they have sent me. If you order
more than $75 the shipping is free....and the best part....if for any reason
you are not happy with something they send you they will pay for all of the
shipping to return it!

I get the Oak Sides Commercial and for a whole side it is $90. The fourth
one down on the left here...

You can easily get 5 quivers and guards out of a side of leather this
big.....so if 5 people want to go in together on the leather and also split
the cost of the stain, sealer and thread it will cost each $25 for a guard
and quiver. Plus any cost for fancy buttons or buckles.

If anyone has a certain design they would like to use....a device or
such.... bring a picture of it and i will help you transfer it to the
leather and show you how to tool it.
