I had not seen it announced here so I wanted to make you all aware that
the new Society CA rules were passed by the BOD on Oct. 8 and the new
handbook hit the web late last week.
Note that there is no longer a separate CA handbook. The CA Rules are
now part of the standard Society Marshals Handbook.
All authorized combat archers and marshals need to read through the new
handbook and learn the new rules.
Some items that you will be most attentive to.
1. Ammo standards. Most of you are already rebuilding your UHMW cored
ammo to make sure that it has the requires sidewraps and the amount of
padding allowed but read through the handbook and make sure you
understand what it says. The rules also no longer allow Golf tube ammo
(siloflex yes - golf tube no) and no longer allow wooden shafts.
2. Bow/crossbow poundage lower limits. There are now bottom limits on
bows of 20# and crossbows of 400IP.
3. Clarification on archers use of shields.
4. Some real rules for pavises.
Many other little pieces of rules cleanup, clarification, and
simplification to get this pulled into the standard marshals handbook.
There have been a few web problems but the new rules should be back
online via SCA.ORG very soon. Just navigate to the Society Marshals web
pages or grab the handbook directly via
