[Ansteorra-archery] my thoughts on commands

ok....you want commands....lets take a note from the ancients here.

you can use hand signals to get a group all ready to launch, for everyone to loose at the same time, have one joker out there with a horn (or a whistle) to sound off. Not only will this get everyone to fire at the same time, but will get everyones attention, preferably to look over right as a large volley of projectiles comes dropping in.

This could possibly be effective in multiple shots dependant upon how they react. Are there enough archers to make a volley a viable threat? If so, our own forces can react after the volley while the enemy is still getting themselves back to their happy fighting place to take advantage of any confusion.

yes, this depends upon a lot of things but it would be period and quite amusing to see. Of course, I would not do this against scutums.

One more thing, it would be better to use regular bows for this volley, crossbows fire way too flat a trajectory for this.

Just my 25 cents on this...inflation is a bitch.
