Since we were going to have to tape the heads anyway, we decided not to dip 3000+ pieces of ammo.

The sidewraps gave way as we did not tape them, thinking the dip would be strong enough to hold the wrap in place.

In what way?  Tearing/separation?
Plastidip does not adhere to UHMW (big surprise there) and won't stick to a lot of tapes either.  In fact it has only so-so adhesion to foam.
