[Ansteorra-archery] Royal Huntsman

greetings

each would come with its own set of duties and responsibilities.
some would be mutually exclusive, such as being in the archery battle with their highnesses / majesties and being on the archery ranges at the same time .

archers are in a strange predicament, the heavies fight for the king / prince , the rapiers fight for the queen / princess, we the archers,as in Henry's time ,defend the home lands,
or in times of war were paid to leave the lands and fight for the king.
the sca combat archers are paid in word fame and companionship among the other heavy weapons fighters with which they share the field of battle.
the target archers are paid the same way , word fame and companionship of the archers with which they share the ranges .

but does the current movement cause friction in the rapier and heavy community ? since combat archers are specifically being placed to protect those already " protected " by other groups ?
I hope not as in most instances, the heavy archers are protecting the queens / princesses, and kings/ princes , in places those groups don't go, although it would be cool to see a corps of rapier cadets , and white scarf's following the queen / princess around in heavy armor with ca equipment , now that would be dedication !!!

my thought would be that anyone competing should be asking themselves , where will my talents and desires most help my kingdom/ barony, group, not " which title do I want to win ".

but as I have stated before, I'm an opinionated old fart.
Be Safe , Be Happy, Have Fun .

The idea of have two different champions sounds like a great idea. But what if the scenario arises where someone who does both combat and target archery. Would these people have to choose which tourney to compete in. Surely one person wouldn't be allowed to win both. And if thats the case, it goes back to being exclusionary

And the finals of this tourney happening with them being CA only would be any different from the bow/crossbowmen thing you have descibed exactly How......?

And in a melee, I have had a crossbowman rush me, misfire...and I whacked the heck out of him with a throwing axe so yes...it can be done. I never said it was perfect however

Or one goes to each. Its possible to have the CA tourney actually done at Crown tourney. The Current crown chooses who the Archer/missile Protector to their heirs will be and they stay on through their reign.

Anotehr thought....If you are going to have a CA tourney, why not add throwing weapons to the mix? Having a guy with the option of either trying to reload his crossbow or rushing the other guy reloading and chucking an axe at him WOULD make the duel a bit more exciting wouldnt it? :D

  Greetings,

The answer to this is simply: Not really. In the past, people have tried such things as throwing an axe, and while your opponent watches it, you shoot him. It has never worked :). In 18 years, there was only one person who won the Kingdom Protector tournament using thrown weapons. The simple fact is that they are too slow. There was also only one victor using a crossbow. All others were won using a handbow. The reload rate of the crossbow means that I'm getting 3 arrows off for each bolt from a fast xbow user.

And if there are 2 champions, they can coordinate between themselves, with their Majesties permission, on which one will be in attendance at which events. I know it gets crowded behind the thrones. That way both can have flexibility for if they can’t make an event.

With inflation and common sense, your two cents is worth a bit more than that Gunnar and I think we still got a bargain in the making.

This also helps with the third group that no one has mentioned. There are pure CA people out there as well, people who dont play on the target range because they are just not into it, heavy fighters who through injury or some other reason do not or are not able to fight in the front lines anymore but still wish to armor up, and heavy fighters who wish to do something besides twiddle their thumbs in the early part of the fort battle waiting for the archers to play for a while.

Instead of forcing three groups into one mold, perhaps you are right and its time for there to be two molds.

And for that group that enjoys both target and CA? Sounds like a win/win/win to me
