Archers!

I was reviewing the youth SCORES page at SCA and realized we need to
step up our youth archery program.

I realize that there are local groups that are naturally teaching
their youths, and we thank you. We have, I think, shied away from
youth SCA activities due to past legal complications. But I believe
that youth Archery is a program that, with the parents participation,
can safely teach Archery in a group setting.

There are some local groups that have started to hold youth (Children)
Archery Royal Rounds at events, but the lack of youth names on the SCA
SCORES web page suggest that we have a missed opportunity. Our SCA
children are our SCA future, what we mentor and teach is what they
will do when they are in charge.

I ask each local Archery group set aside a few minutes each practice
to mentor the youth in your group. And when you plan a Royal Round for
Adults, consider doing one for the youth. Better yet, hold a Royal
Rounds specifically for the youth at least once every 3 months. Make
it special, invite other groups to attend, hold a revel, recognize
each youth as a member of the Archery community, and in a few years
from now, we will have many more talented and experienced Archers to
carry on our our beloved SCA Archery programs.

Yours In Service,
LD. Francois de Lions,
Keeper of the Royal Rounds, Ansteorra
