[Ansteorra-archery] Children's Archery

Cian, Danr & I have been interested in offering children's royal rounds
primarily because our daughter would like to shoot them. I have nothing
but praise for the opportunities our local groups have provided for the
children (ours and others) -- so many patient teachers! But week in and
week out she watches the adults shooting royal rounds and recording their
scores, and she'd like to do that too. She's even tried shooting adult
royal rounds, but she's nine and that's tough. And I know that both of our
kids would like to be able to look up their standing on the sca-scores
page. We think that would probably appeal to other kids, too.

We were the marshalls for the children's shoot at Wiesenfeuer Baronial (as
you know), and we split it into two parts. One was children's royal
rounds; this is what determined the winner. At the same time, we had a fun
shoot with a balloon box & a couple of other targets at about 5 yards. We
let the children decide which half they wanted to do, and they sorted
themselves out very nicely. None of the kids shooting royal rounds seemed
to mind skipping the balloon box, and none of the younger / less
experienced kids seemed to mind not having a (theoretical) chance to be the
Winner. We are planning on doing the same thing at Namron's Beltane Games
this coming weekend.

Once the novelty of children's royal rounds has worn off, I wouldn't want
to do them every time, just as I wouldn't want to do them in the adult
shoots at every event. But we do hope to find a way to offer them at
Namron's practices at least occasionally.
