[Ansteorra-archery] Archery as a Peer area under A&S.

I could not agree more. If becoming a peer is your primary goal than you would be better off in something other than archery. If archery is your passion than live for your passion and make that your primary goal to get as many interested in archery as you can. For events that offer archery, make it the best thing at the event with more people participating than any other event. Offer open range time, offer loaner gear (if you do not have any ask a nearby barony to help) offer instruction to children and adults. It will be impossible to ignore us if we have large turn outs at our archery. Even if we are only given an hour for a tournament we like to keep the range running most of the day for people who are looking for something to do other than watch others. If people come to your practices make sure you point them to other things in the SCA they can do as well (I hate being accused of recruiting archers only).

It sums up both my thoughts and my experiences, and I thank Don
Christian for putting it so very concisely. 

Go thou and overachieve, if it please you. But most of all, do these
things, which I think are important: 

Have fun and be enthusiastic
Communicate that fun and enthusiasm to others
Learn
Teach what you have learned
Write and publish at least a little
Travel as widely as you can while doing the above

There is no certain road to any Peerage, but going out of your way to do
the above certainly will not damage your cause. 

You don't have to be anyone's Apprentice or Student; I never was. It can
be helpful to have a close relationship with at least one Peer.
