Thanks Karl. Words to keep us grounded. 

My opinion, a sash (or baldric) made or a light material such as silk or a light linen or something would be the way to go. It's visible from the front as well as the back and can be distinguished from a distance as well. Badges, pendants and belt flags don't have this benefit. Plus, I imagine, they are really easy to make. If its not made too wide it shouldn't add anything in the way of heat to ones garb.
