I own a longbow that has a chip out of it on the lower limb. This damage 
was thanks to my nephew who was 12 at the time.  It looks bad, but has 
not caused any ill effects to the bow. The shop I bought it at in 
England told me not to do anything with it. Not to try and shave or 
reshape it. They said it was safe but that if I was concerned to do a 
period style rawhide repair.  My question is will it be considered 
"safe" for SCA use?  Thank you
