<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>First, I want to commend the CA community
for your sense of responsability toward your friends. Erring on the
side of caution when dealing with fairly rough simulated combat is commendable,
and as a part-time pin cushion, I thank you. :)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>To my way of thinking, the biggest difference
between CA authorization and Heavy authroization isn't simply the fact that once
you throw your shot, you can't do anything about it, but that due to the dearth
of practice locations where CA is allowed in this kingdom (there's what, 1 or 2
practices where it can be done?) someone who doesn't have a heavy authorization
to begin with simply doesn't get the live-combat in-helm time that the average
heavy fighter gets going to weekly fighter practice for weeks or months
prior to authorization.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>This is not to suggest that I think we need to err
more on the side of caution, but to at least look toward that factor when
authorizing new CA's, and I have every belief that all of our CA Authorizing
Marshals do just that.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Another dearth that we seem to have in this kingdom
since the "reset" is authorizing marshals in general. Sieur Jean Paul was
working toward rectifying that problem when he was KEM, and in discussions I've
had with the new KEM, Sir Asoph, that's very much our goal now. This
includes CA Authorization marshals. We don't need to make everyone in the
kingdom an authorization marshal by any means. But we DO need MORE.
And there is of course no reason at all that virtually every fighter with some
reasonable amount of experience isn't also a marshal for everything that they're
authorized to do.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>So my challenge to each of you is to look
toward upgrading yourself. If you're a combat archer but not a marshal,
work toward becoming a marshal. If you're a CA marshal, work toward
becoming an authorizing marshal. Once upon a time I was CA
authorized. Heck, I've even fired 2 shots in combat! (Both kills,
thanks.) :D I will challenge myself by re-upping my CA authorization
and then getting CA Marshal authorized. For those of you who are
exceptions to this challenge, because you're already CA, CA Marshal and CA Auth
Marshal, I challenge YOU to help us identify people who should be stepping up,
and then help us help them step up. I know you're doing it already...but
sometimes it helps to hear the words. :)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Change is slow, but it is coming. If you're
an individual who's up to one of those challenges above, be on the look out for
a call to do just that, and soon. </FONT></DIV>
