Members of the Guild,
I'm down to the wire for announcing our next meeting.
After a small amount of discussion on the Ansteorran Dance list (and
hearing no objection), I have picked Elfsea Defender as the event for
the 1st meeting of A.G.E.D. I will contact the autocrat, and figure out
what the best time of day to meet is. Likely, we'll meet around the list
field in my household's pavilion.
Respond to me at russmax at cowboy.net if you have any questions or suggestions.
Topics of Discussion
A. Electing the official proctor.
I'm only the acting proctor. Whether the guild chooses to retain me,
or elect someone else, my job for now is only to get this ball rolling.
B. Ratifying (or not) the proposed Bylaws.
These will also be open to discussion and amendment at the meeting. I
am attaching the proposed Bylaws in RTF format for your convenience.
In service to Ansteorra and A.G.E.D.
HL Guillaume de Troyes
Addendum:
These people don't have e-mail. If you know them and can get this
announcement to them, please do so, and let me know. Thanks

Bylaws of the Charter for the
Ansteorran Guild of European Dancers

A. The Guild Proctor's duties are as follows:
1. To maintain a current roster of dance teachers in the
Kingdom of Ansteorra.
2. To assist groups in locating teachers for dance classes at
events, local meetings, revels, etc.
3. To assure assistance to groups who wish to start local dance
guilds.
4. To keep informed on the progress, projects, and activities
of local guilds.
5. To report to the Kingdom Minister Of Arts and Sciences on
the progress, projects, and activities of the Guild.
6. To coordinate the development and production of a Kingdom
dance manual, a recording of dance music, and a discography
of dance recordings.
7. To inform Guild Members of the Guild's activities and
projects.
B. The Guild Proctor may appoint deputies to fulfill those
duties as required.
C. How the Guild Proctor is elected.
1. The Guild Proctor is chosen by a simple majority of the
votes cast by Guild Members.
2. The vote is counted at a designated official Kingdom
Calendar event, announced to all Guild Members at least two
months in advance, in the Black Star or by newsletter, and
by electronic communication.
3. Absentia votes are recognized. An absentia vote is a letter
sent by an absent Guild Member specifying how their vote
should be cast on a particular issue or election.
D. Guild Proctor's term of office.
1. The Guild Proctor's term of office shall be one year.
2. No Proctor may be elected to more than two consecutive
terms.
II. Recognition of Teaching Excellence:
A. The Guild will recognize three levels of excellence in dance
instruction. These are Inceptor, Journeyman, and Magister of
Dance.
1. Inceptor--An Inceptor is a Guild teacher who meets the
following standards:
a. Has a knowledge of basic dance etiquette.
b. Practices courtly and chivalrous behavior.
c. Has taught and lead at least five dances to a group of
people. The Inceptor is required to know the name of
each dance, the terminology of its steps, and its
background information (type of dance and approximate
date and country of origin) and implement this
knowledge while teaching.
d. A Guild member attains the level of Inceptor upon
completion of the following:
i. A letter with a list of dances taught and where
each was taught is sent to the Guild Proctor.
ii. Each requirement met must be verified and signed
in the letter by an Inceptor or higher level
teacher, and one other member of the Guild who
was taught by the candidate.
iii. The Inceptor's name is then added to the roster
of dance teachers in Ansteorra.
2. Journeyman--A Journeyman is an Inceptor who also meets the
following standards:
a. Has taught and lead at least ten dances, from at least
three different countries or time periods, to a group
of people. The Journeyman is required to know the name
of each dance, the terminology of its steps, and its
background information (type of dance; original author,
publisher, or source manuscript; and approximate date
and country of origin) and implement this knowledge
while teaching.
b. Has been in charge of dancing at three or more events.
This includes running a ball or local dance practice,
or teaching a dance class. In the case of teaching a
class, the teacher must provide a handout with each
dance's background and a tabulation of its
choreography.
c. Has competently danced at least once for a pre-
designated dance performance or competition.
d. An Inceptor attains the level of Journeyman upon
completion of the following:
i. A letter is sent to the Guild Proctor with these
items: 1) a list of dances taught and where each
was taught, 2) a list of balls or practices run,
and 3) which dance was performed at which event.
ii. Each requirement met must be verified and signed
in the letter by a Journeyman or higher level
teacher, and one other member of the Guild who
was taught by the candidate.
iii. The Journeyman's name is then added to the roster
of Journeymen dance teachers in Ansteorra.
3. Magister of Dance--A Magister of Dance is a Journeyman who
also meets the following standards:
a. Has taught and lead at least twenty dances, from at
least five different countries or time periods, to a
group of people. The Magister is required to know the
name of each dance, the terminology of its steps, and
its background information (type of dance; original
author, publisher, or source manuscript; and
approximate date and country of origin) and implement
this knowledge while teaching.
b. Has been in charge of dancing at six or more events.
This includes running a ball or local dance practice,
or teaching a dance class. In the case of teaching a
class, the teacher must provide a handout with each
dance's background and a tabulation of its
choreography.
c. Has competently danced at least twice for a pre-
designated dance performance or competition.
d. Has reconstructed at least two dances from original
sources or translations. An original choreography may
be substituted for one reconstruction.
e. A person attains the level of Magister of Dance upon
completion of the following:
i. A letter is sent to the Guild Proctor with these
items: 1) a list of dances taught and where each
was taught, 2) a list of balls or practices run,
3) which dances were performed at which events,
and 4) which dances were reconstructed or
choreographed.
ii. Each requirement met must be verified and signed
in the letter by a Magister of Dance and one
other member of the Guild who was taught by the
candidate.
iii. The Magister's name is then added to the roster
of Magister dance teachers in Ansteorra.
f. A Magister of Dance is expected to help local dance
guilds near them get started and keep going. A Magister
of Dance is also expected to help cause dance to happen
at events, and to help hold dance events.
III. Regalia:
A. The badge of A.G.E.D. is
Or, a dance sable.
In English: A gold/yellow background with a black horizontal
zig-zag in the middle; think Charlie Brown's shirt. It uses the
kingdom's colors and has a pun/cant on a heraldic "dance". Any
member of A.G.E.D. may wear the badge to signify their membership
in the Guild.
