While this sounds like a good idea, I'm not sure that we could form a guild,
unless it in general Middle Eastern studies. Individual arts, in particular,
would still fall under the umbrellas of individual other guilds, such as
cooking, costuming, calligraphy, etc. I'm not opposed, at all, to the idea of a
Middle Eastern studies group, however, as there is so much misinformation out
there, not only in the SCA, but in the world in general. Her Grace Willow and I
spent a great deal of time discussing this misinformation on our way to and
back from Laurel's Prize Tourney -- believe me, you'll start discussing
anything, much less something interesting like this, trying to take your mind off of
5 hours of travel in an un-air-conditioned vehicle! Even scholars find much
to disagree on, and there is a lot of difficulty "getting behind the veil"
especially on women's studies.

Maybe what could be a possibility is a series of informative short articles
to post here on various subjects that we are interested in? I know in the
context of my research, I have found many interesting little byways than humanize
the Arab world -- such as famous legends where women play crucial parts, or
the radical proposition that much of the western Europe ideas of Chivalric Love,
or love from afar, grew from Arabic ideals in poetry that spread from
Andalusian Spain. And of course, I'm more than willing to share my favorite recipes
and my redactions of ME foods, if anyone is interested!
