Well, also, in all fairness, all of our arrows and bolts are suppose to have
vanes on them too. To the best of my knowledge it has NEVER been passed in
this Kingdom that the APD may take the place of the vaneS. It's been talked
about and said it would. But unless I missed where it was published, it
hasn't happened.

Shoot more arrows. You're bound to hit something.

In a related note. I am not sure how Modifications B or C listed below
will ever pass.

The rule for essentially any weapon that hits/stabs point first is that it
has to have AT LEAST 1/2" of progressive give in front of the rigid striking
surface. (some weapons more is required).

Since both of those modifications leave less than 1/2" of compressible
material in front of the rigid stop I am not sure how they will even pass at
the Society level.

Even if they do somehow pass at the Society level we will have to decide if
we will allow them in Ansteorra. Remember that part of our problem here in
Ansteorra is that these things were never truthfully approved for use in our
kingdom. They received the approval at the society level (such as it was)
and suddenly folks in Ansteorra started buying them and putting them on
arrows and bolts. Fearghus never formally approved them, never sent out any
policy statement, ruling, or formal notification that they were allowed,
etc. He was evaluating them, and suddenly there were people buying them.
At Gulf War in 2002 there were hundreds of them purchased by Ansteorrans
within hours of the society level approval while Fearghus was still
pondering about them and Ansteorrans where complaining that they hit too
hard. By the time I took over as KAM there were hundreds of them in use in
Ansteorra and they had truthfully never been properly approved.

We are not going to let that happen again. Any new design or modification
that is approved at the Society level will be properly examined and tested
in Ansteorra. We will gather the appropriate data and opinions and then
decide if we are going to allow them or not. Until you see a formal policy
statement from me saying that they are allowed (it will be in the Black Star
and on the web site) then they are NOT allowed.

Reminder that if there are any of you out there that wish to test
modifications or new designs you need to contact me BEFORE they are ever
fired out of any bow at any formal SCA event/function/gathering. We must
follow the proper experimental weapons guidelines.

In Service,

Lord Eadric Anstapa
Kingdom Archery Marshal, Ansteorra

Modifications to date concerning egg-shaped baldar blunts that are
currently being tested from Tessa the Huntress, Deputy Society Marshal
for Combat Archery.

No "fix" has been identified at this time. Just testing is being carried
out, under very controlled conditions at this time.

Please note at the bottom of her message the 1/8 inch modification has
failed.
