For some reason they seem to always put it with the steel pipe. If not
that would be really strange. They normally carry the 160 psi in 1/2",
3/4" and 1". Oh and I hope that was supposed to be 5/16", if not I
would hate to get hit by those buggers. Talk about knocking on your

Re: [Ansteorra-missile] Type of Siloflex APD

I check at both Home Depot and Lowes here in Dallas and
they both
carry only 100 ft coils of siloflex and that is either 100
PSI or 160 PSI,
but in the wrong diameters. No straight sections
available, would
have to go on line to get a order of straight
siloflex.

I already have miter box and saw, this is how I cut the
GT APD's,
that I am currently using.

I got another response on
the SCA Missile list from Siegfried,
concerning 100 and 160 PSI
siloflex. He did not see much
difference between the two in weight,
but he is using 15/16" shafts,
as his shafts weigh more than the APD.

This is what Siegfried wrote back:
Routed is easiest to build,
if you happen to have a router table setup, and
make a few jigs, then
it's really easy. Ignore the External Tab, it's not
used by anyone I
know right now, for the primary reason that it wastes
siloflex. Even
the 'creator' of that style, last I heard, wasn't using
it.

Internal Tab is the easiest to build with less technology. Just
need
something, anything, to cut slots with (dremel, handsaw, tablesaw,

it doesn't
really matter for performance/etc. Though the angle cut is
nicer when
hitting something, and less lightly to get torqued
off.

Ok, I have until December 31st to make my final decision
on the
which APD to go with.

Thanks for the

For a bow I think I would go with the 100 psi. It would give you a
weight closer to what you are used to using. The 160 you can get
in 5' sections already straightened at Lowes, Home Depot. I
believe and I could be wrong that they sell the 100 in coils only.
If you can find someone to supply it straightened and the price is right
(Remember to figure in your time to straighten) go for it. If you
have time but not the money buy the coils and straighten them
yourself. I would most likely go with the internal tab if you
don't have a router table or the use of one. A simple miter box
and saw can be bought for a relative small price. Of spend the
money and buy the Asgard APDs.

Thanks Iaen for the input. This is what I thought from

Hmm, lets see. Having worked with several designs here is my input.
External Tab:
Most difficult to make as the tabs have to cut after cutting to length
needed. The angle cuts can be a bit of pain as you are switching back and
forth with your saw. More to difficult to round over edges properly.
Fairly easy to attach.
Internal Tab:
Easier to cut but still have to deal with the angles. Have to cut the tabs
in afterwards. The most difficult to attach having to hold the thing and
wrap the tape at the same time. Still difficult to round over the edges but
easier than the external type .
Straight with routed channel:
Easiest to cut, 2 90 degree cuts and done. Best way to make routed channel
is a jig and a table router. You can do 5' lengths real easy if you set it
up right. I do mine before I cut them and do them in large enough pieces to
handle easily. Rounding edges really easy if you have a dremel tool and
1/8th router bit. Attaching can be done easily, run a bead of hot melt glue
down the channel and stick it to the shaft. Set it aside and do the next of
a bunch. Tape them all at one time. Kinda assembly line like. Also uses
the least amount of material.
Flight: I have not noticed much of a difference in any of the styles. They
all work as a ringfoil in flight. Actually they seem to fly as good if not
better than fletches.
