1655: Cyrano De Bergerac Died

Fourteen months after a plank fell on his head, French soldier
and writer Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac died at the age of 36.
Many are familiar with Edmond Rostand's 19th century play, but
few realize Rostand's work is based on an actual person. The
real Cyrano was a celebrated swordsman with a hot temper and a
monstrously large nose. He is also a well known satirist and
writer of philosophical novels.
