No, it's a left-handed gauntlet, and primarily intended for defense 
in parrying and blade-grabbing, but...

While it goes on easily enough, taking it off is a hassle. Once I put 
it on, I tend to leave it on. So if I'm wearing the mail gauntlet but 
using my dagger, I run into the "steel rings on a wood grip" 
low-friction problem I mentioned. Or (as Robin said) if I lose my 
right hand and have to switch the rapier to my left, I run into the 
"thick fingers in the quillons" problem.

It's an interesting toy to experiment with, but just slightly more 
hassle than it's worth for everyday use.
