- Having weighed a lot of weapons I can tell you that a typical epee rig
is lighter than any HR rig I have weighed. There is a meaningful weight
difference. Besides, the lightest HR rig was an expensive thing from
Darkwood and is not the kind of thing one finds in the loaner gear.
- While I am good with having foil/epee eliminated from competition I
would like to see them available for practice. In particular, I use them
with some very new people who have not yet gained the strength to work with
the heavier blades. This is transitional and they would have to work past
it before their first tourney but it is a necessary step for some.
- As to the wording, I changed the wording in the rapier rules a couple
of revisions ago to read "Foil & Epee" rather than "light rapier". With
this change I recommend dropping "heavy"and just calling our reproduction
blades "rapiers".
- Looking to the future we probably need to come up with a new term that
encompasses the new, broader range of activities we do. With C&T options
such as longsword we obviously are not just doing rapier now. Perhaps
something like "Steel Combat". However, that is a society level issue.
- BTW, the CPH online does NOT contain the current rapier rules. For
those you would need to visit
http://rapier.ansteorra.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=34
- Pug, we tried multiple times for years to get the CPH updated to
include the current rapier rules and were unsuccessful. I hope you can get
that fixed.
