I have joined this list as I have been set upon a task by His Highness and I am in need of the assistance of the many talented weavers in Ansteorra. His Highness will be adopting a Roman persona as of Coronation, and therefore I have a great need for Woven segmentae, clavi, etc. to adorn his garments. I am in search of card, tapestry and loom weavers who would be willing to undertake this task of weaving these pieces which will then be attached to his garments (primarily Dalmaticas.) I am also looking for any documentation that people can point me toward for Roman weaving (6th-7th century) and garments. If you are interested in assisting in this endeavor, please contact me at rixende at mail2noble.com. I will also probably remain on this list throughout Their reign, as I have much to learn about weaving, and a very short time to do it in. We have not specifically designed which dalmaticas he wants yet, we will work on that Saturday morning. I do have some overall color combinations for the outfits that His Highness is looking for: blue and black with gold accents black and gold white with purple accents I am open to using embroidered and beaded panels as well, as long as we can document what we do. The garments themselves are relatively easy to create, so the weaving/beading/embroidery will be what really makes these outfits shine. My first concern will be getting his garments done for Coronation, of course. I forgot to tell you all the Gerita and Galen came down and helped me shear Nell, our best Rambouillet. I wish I had gotten pictures to share with you all. Much fun was had, and a few bruises. It was great to meet some people from the list. Galen popped in the next day for a wee bit and I gave her a quick spinning lesson and sent her off with fiber and spindle to practice. I sheared the nastiest sheep yesterday. 2 years worth of growth and so matted there was often just a cm or so between the skin and the mat where I could cut. But I'm glad I did it, those poor things needed some help, and I am going to be bossy and tell their owner how to better manage his herd. I made one ewe so mad she'd head butt me every time I tried to clip her. I will get to shear 2 fresh and clean baby llamas and they are going to humor me and let me see what if anything I can get of the camel!! OK, I'm REALLY gonna make Kestrel go red, now. Remember, she started this! People, those sheepies she keeps talking about have no barn to sleep in. The dog problem is just as bad as it ever was, and the sheep are getting crammed into a stall in the carriage house to keep them safe at night. If anyone, anywhere can think of a fun way to raise that barn roof, please 'spill it'. The barn is about 80% funded, but work cannot begin, and thus the sheep will have no home, until the fund gets to 100%. What can we do? and I am going to be bossy and tell their owner how to better manage his herd. I made one ewe so mad she'd head butt me every time I tried to clip her. Yah, well, if a person's best advocate is a loved-one, then you count as a 'best advocate' for the sheep, Kestral. You go, girl!! People, finding bits of your friends scattered around their paddock is no way to come in, in the morning. Yes, the park is fenced. *HOWEVER* there are several low spots where dogs can get in. Fresh lamb to a hungry dog is just fair game. Sheep have absolutely no natural defenses, at *all*! (thanks to several thousands of years of selective breeding by humans) I've seen the carriage house stable, and it is comfortably large for two Mammoth Jacks to live in it. But, its not designed or laid out for sheep. They really do need their own barn. I agree with Garita.......if anyone can think of a way to get the barn built....please, speak up! If we can raise money for fireworks, however beautiful they will be, we should be able to raise cash for this and perhaps a kind word about the Society's donation. (my thanks to Kestral, the spindle and wool are by my finally-sit-down-at-night, chair and I'm still working on it.) anyone have any thoughts or ideas? I'm perfectly willing to bring hammer and saw(s) to pitch in. If Habitat for Humanity can build a house with volunteers....perhaps we can build a barn? (Don't worry if you can not attend, I can still use your help!) It will be under my Pavilion, which is a huge White Oval Marquee with a blue dining fly that comes off the front, edged in gold. (Dags are blue with gold trim as well). We should have Tomas's banner flying as well, which is a green and white gyronny, (dart board) with 3 gold lizards in a circle. If you have books that are easily portable and don't mind bringing them out, I would appreciate that you bring them along. Please bring along a sample of your work, especially if you have appropriate Roman/Coptic patterns. I have assignments for Inkle, Tapestry and Card Woven pieces. If you can't attend, and would like to assist, please send me your contact information at rixende @ mail2noble.com (remove spaces) In Service to Ansteorra, HL Rixende rixende at mail2noble.com 817-797-1988 (cell, no calls after 10 pm) _______________________________________________________________ Get the FREE email that has everyone talking at http://www.mail2world.com

My library is open, though, and I will be home just about every day and evening next week, all day long. I'm leaving on June 6th for Cuernavaca and won't return until July 3rd. UT Arlington Art and Architecture Library also has a very good book on Coptic textiles. It has large B & W plates of textiles that were in the Dresden Museum - before the firebombing during WWII. I don't remember the name of the book, but I'll see if I can find it. I know have direction from His Highness and a design for His Coronation clothing! YEAH! To this end, I would like to have a short meeting at Steppes Warlord if you are in attendance, immediately following morning court on Saturday.
