I don't think it would be presumptive, as many of us have seen your
performing talents first-hand and know that calling yourself a skald would
be accurately descriptive.  (The reverse is true as well - sometimes bynames
would be given as a sarcastic jibe or even an outright insult - therefore,
"der skald" might be given to a frightfully shy and introverted person as
well.)  Occupational bynames are very common in period, and a lot of today's
most prevalent surnames - Smith, Miller, and a host of others - have
occupational origins.
