GIFTS

Behold how birds and fragrant flowers praise
the gentle morning radiant with light,
the air is cool, the earth is moist and bright,
and pilgrims often pause to breathe, and gaze.

Behold how men and women tryst their days
with quiet dedication, good and right.
Behold how music gathers with a might
which never harms the heart, but always plays.

Each moment is a miracle, a gift,
a blessing (without understanding why)
which we receive, and many also give.
Mysterious!  Together spirits lift
in wondrous ways, and comfort some who cry:
A gift of honor, and a gift to live.
