[Bards] New Question

Hmm...I think I would have to say that what I perform are, to date, all
original pieces...stories in a poem format for the most part. I can't sing
worth a flip! ;) However, I've been told I'm a half decent writer, but,
being new to the whole SCA/bardic thing, I'm still learning what exactly it
is I'm supposed to do. Usually, I try to convey some kind of moral or 'deep
thought' in my stuff (unless it's just for fun) because that's one of the
things I understood that bards did. I might be totally off my rocker...it
wouldn't be the first time. ;)

I also understand that a bard's purpose was to spread important news and
details about important events. Unfortunately, I haven't seen enough
Ansteorran 'history' to write anything like that. Hmm...maybe a piece about
'Waterlord' would be in order. :D

In the end, though, I think my goal is probably to entertain because it
strikes me that they didn't have *nearly* the amount of entertainment in the
middle ages that we do today. As soon as I can track down some good,
reliable sources, I'd like to learn some period stuff. (I'm *horrible* at
research.)

When mundanes ask me what a bard is, I tell them it's the medieval
equivalent of a rock star, reporter and spy all rolled into one. ;) Sounds
glamorous to me! :D
