Sorry - that was more than two stanzas. Didn't remember that little
requirement till after I hit "send"

Heh,

Eleanor

Robin,

Oh have I told you lately that

I so admire your style?

And have I told you truly that

Your verses make me smile?

This meter is your forte if

My memory proves true

I also feel at home herein

Because I learned from you

I know that you have told me that

You do not have the time

To craft more poems and stories, or

at least - to make them rhyme.

And yet, I am your daughter, and

Some privileges this brings.

And I can ask such things of you

That you'd not do for kings.

If ballad form, or villanelles,

Or triolets or worse.

I do not care what form you choose

Please - won't you write more verse?

Thanks,

Truly

it to me? Anybody?

Iambic meter is really easy, and in fact, Ulf explained it so briefly
that you missed it.

An iamb is a foot of an unaccented syllable followed by an accented one
(ta-DUM)

An iambic line is several iambs in a row -- ta-DUM, ta-DUM, ta-DUM,
ta-DUM

Ballad measure is all iambic lines, four feet, three feet, four feet,
three feet. Most songs in English are in ballad measure.

ta-DUM, ta-DUM, ta-DUM, ta-DUM

ta-DUM, ta-DUM, ta-DUM,

ta-DUM, ta-DUM, ta-DUM, ta-DUM

ta-DUM, ta-DUM, ta-DUM.

Example:

The Baron was a bardic man;

He knew the ways of verse,

(I wrote this poem some years ago,

This second one is worse.

But Ulfie wanted humor, so

I had to make it daft.)

And with those verses on his knee,

The baron sat and laughed.
