[Bards] Alden's first song

A little word-fame is definitely in order here. Alden sang his first song
(and first first song) for us last night at the Stargate/Loch fighter
practice. One word to describe both songs? Outstanding! Being a bard
myself, though, I can't stop with only one word. So, original, funny,
well-sung, great tunes, and highly entertaining!

Cheers to Alden!

Ok - Eleanor pointed out that this is really my *second* song (see The
Husbands' Retort on my bardic page at bard.ansteorra.org), but it's the
first song I wrote with original music.

At Westgate Winter Collegium this weekend (yes - Winter in June), we were
performing some bardic pieces, and a song that I sang at Gulf War a couple
years ago came up in discussion, but it was NOT a song to be sung in polite
company, so I wasn't going to sing it that night. It prompted me to comment
"That's a song right there - A song about a song that I'm not going to
sing." So I am happy to say that I put the idea down on paper and have come
up with the following song. I wrote three verses, but more can easily be
added.

A Song About A Song<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

You call on me to sing a song

Because you heard it said,

That I've a song to make you gasp

And turn your face bright red.

But surely this is not the time,

Nor place for such a song,

The baroness is listening

And that would just be wrong.

So this is my song,

A song about a song,

A song about a song that I am not going to sing.

You heard a rumor from a friend

About a dreadful tune,

Sung by a fair and dashing bard

One night beneath the moon.

Oh yes my friends that bard is me;

I don't deny the fame,

(But) The baroness still listens

And I think she knows my name.

So this is my song,

A song about a song,

A song about a song that I am not going to sing.

The baroness's champion,

He keeps his eye on me.

In case I dare to sing my song

Before her company.

But I am not some reckless cad,

No, that would not be right,

But I will sing it after she

Retires for the night.

So this is my song,

A song about a song,

A song about a song that I am not going to sing.

Yes this is my song,

A song about a song,

A song about a song that I am not going to sing.
