It got bogged down in pointless, snipey internal politics and died of natural causes. At which point it became self-evident that the bards of the kingdom didn't need a "household" with badges, ranks, elevations, class differences, yada yada, in order to encourage them to perform. They just needed to be encouraged to perform.

That's the opinion of someone who was watching from the outside. The opinion of someone from the inside might be different, and would definitely be worth hearing.
